Family Relationships and Divorce

The breakdown of a personal relationship can be one of the most distressing events you will ever experience especially if children are involved. It can also be expensive both as a result of legal proceedings and because generally a single family can live much more cheaply than two separate ones. But however painful the breakdown the worst effects of a subsequent breakup can often be avoided.

At Blanchards Bailey our knowledge of the law and long experience of putting it into practice has given us a reputation for handling family relationships which extends well beyond the immediate locality.

While we will commit wholly to your interests and do our very best to secure the outcome you want we will do this as far as possible in a way which does not poison any future dealings with your partner especially in matters relating to children.

Our expertise covers divorce, maintenance arrangements and financial settlements, injunctions in the case of domestic violence and all matters relating to children including contact and residence. We advise in the case of the break down of co-habitation and civil partnerships.

One way in which disputes can be avoided, or at least restricted, in the event of breakdown is by use of a pre-nuptial contract or a co-habitation agreement. We will be pleased to advise on these and help draw them up.

The availability of public funding (formerly known as Legal Aid) has been greatly restricted but if you qualify, as to which we will advise you, we are able to act on that basis.

A relatively new way of approaching breakdown is by use of collaborative law. Financial matters and issues relating to children can often best be dealt with through mediation. We are qualified to provide both.
